Gordon Wishon is Chief Information Officer at Arizona State University, providing leadership for the University Technology Office, responsible for providing technology services and support to ASU’s more than 76,000 students and 10,000 faculty, staff, and researchers.
Gordon is excited to attend Dell World for the fourth consecutive year. Find out why.
What do you love about Dell World?
“I’ve been attending Dell World for several years and what I love about this event is the visibility and the access to senior decision makers. And access not only to Dell Executives, but also third-party partners and suppliers.”
What is your favorite Dell World story?
“It’s hard for me to pick only one! One of the best experiences I’ve had was the opportunity to share a meal with Michael Dell and other members of the Dell leadership team. I also had the opportunity to meet Susan Dell, Michael’s wife. I found out she is an ASU alumni!”
What makes Dell World different from other events?
“I’ve been a CIO for more than 20 years and I’ve attended many IT events. One of the things that distinguishes Dell World is the level of conversations with senior decision makers. The conversations with these leaders can get very industry-specific; we do have clear differences in terms of culture and needs. At Dell World, executives really hear the challenges we face, which are very specific. They really take the time to get closer to you and have very substantive conversations about the future trends.”
How do you describe your Dell World experience to colleagues and associates?
“I’d describe the Dell World experience as the opportunity to interact with the Dell EMC leadership team, which allows us better visibility to what we can expect from Dell in the future.”
Who do you recommend attend Dell World and why?
“I’d recommend anyone who needs to get visibility on Dell's strategy, access to experts and visibility on what the future might hold should attend. Dell, as corporation, has changed significantly over the years. Over time, the range of products and services that Dell offers has changed as Dell has acquired new companies. Dell World is a great opportunity to get first-hand visibility on these changes, what new products and services are available and have a clear picture of the company roadmap.”
With the Dell EMC combination, what do you expect from this year’s event?
“I really look forward to knowing which elements of EMC will be combined with Dell and which ones will stay separate. I expect to get a clear picture of the portfolio of products and services. We are looking for further clarity.”
